RECOMMENDED ACCOMMODATIONS
Recently I've been asked where it would be good to stay overnight in the Aletsch Arena. Except on the Eggishorn and Bettmerhorn of course ;-) It makes perfect sense to spend a long weekend in the Aletsch Arena, as on the one hand the journey takes time and on the other hand the region is simply incredibly beautiful and invites you to linger. In summer and winter. Here are 3 hotels where I have stayed several times and which I personally would highly recommend.
RIEDERALP
I often go to Riederalp because the area around the Aletsch Forest is beautiful and ideal for hiking. Years ago I drank mulled wine with my Asian friends in the Berghaus Toni by the cozy fireplace. Since then I have been there more often and have stayed at the hotel a few times. It's a budget hotel with a great bar and very nice views. Ideally located for excursions. James and Brit are very welcoming and international. He is English and she is Belgian. There are great Belgian specialties in the bar ;-)
BETTMERALP
A few years ago I was looking for a hotel on Bettmeralp to go skiing and came across the Hotel Slalom. It is very centrally located and yet quiet with a great view. It is a very nice chalet with well-equipped rooms and a lot of attention to detail. Karin and Reto are the very friendly and helpful hotel owners. It is a family business and you can tell that a lot of passion goes into the hotel. By the way, Karin is a great photographer. You can see this clearly on the website and the photos in the hotel.
FIESCHERALP
When I started taking photos in the Aletsch Arena, I spent a few sleepless nights on the Eggishorn. The fantastic Horli Hitta on the Eggishorn belongs to the Hotel Alpina on the Fiescheralp. After several years of photographing, a beautiful friendship has developed with Ingrid and Marco. They run the hotel and do it with a lot of joy. The Atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. The hotel is very centrally located next to the Fiescheralp station(perfect for Eggishorn). DThe views from the balcony are very beautiful, especially to admire the popular sunrise. The hotel is very nicely developed and has a whirlpool.
